Reference, Instruction, and Outreach (RIO)

The group met in the Scribner Library of Skidmore College to discuss the 2020 Census and what they and their libraries were planning in preparation for it.

One library was planning a dedicated workstation for patrons to use to fill out the census, and some were thinking about promoting census jobs to academic library students.

There was much discussion about possible ethical/moral issues, as well as the modern dangers presented by personal data, both in the hands of the government and the private sector.

We will further explore the upcoming census at our next meeting on February 13th.
