Some good about AI:

  • Can cut down on processing time
  • Can do decent description writing for items and collections.
  • It is good for re-writing docs, ads, etc.
  • It may be possible for AI to perform reference services.
  • APA has instructions for citing AI:  https://apastyle.apa.org/blog/how-to-cite-chatgpt

Some Bad:

  • Copyright - AI bots are using data scrubbers and using data and images that are often copyrighted.
  • Many are waiting for more information until they have a conversation on creating an AI policy.

Some Ugly:

  • Discussion on how academic learning can be proven when AI will be used to write papers. Reverting back to in-person testing?
  • AI are starting to talk to AI - also scraping data from each other. This will make it harder to find original sources for material and their associated copyrights.
  • A NY Times podcast about AI and schools: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/28/podcasts/the-daily/ai-chat-gpt-schools.html
