Reference, Instruction, and Outreach (RIO)

Guide to provide a forum to learn and share ideas about the various aspects of library reference, instruction, and outreach.

Meeting Overview

Kerrie Burch (Questar III School Library System) and Carol Anne Germain (University at Albany), co-facilitators of CDLC’s new High School to College Transition Interest Group conducted an informal “show and tell” of services and resources for special needs students in this population. Participants were encouraged to bring a relevant service or resource they had implemented or offered at their library or institution. This discussion was a lead in to the presentation at CDLC's annual meeting on May 10th, and to the Bridging the Gap: Preparing High School Special Needs Students for Success in College Symposium being planned for June 3rd. Some of the topics discussed were various technologies that could be used for this purpose (such as Canva), legislative efforts to ensure a librarian for every grade school on New York State, and engaging guidance counselors to help with student preparation and transition.
