This guide contains current and upcoming events of interest to librarians, archivist, library staff, and others in Capital District Region.

Caring for Yourself and Your Colleagues in Times of Stress

In recent years, working in libraries has become increasingly stressful. While we can't control external factors, we CAN adjust our work environments to better handle the stress that is thrown our way on a daily basis. Sonnet Ireland, a public library director in Louisiana, will start by outlining the challenges her staff faces. She will then share strategies and activities to create a calmer working environment despite these difficulties. This program will emphasize the practical and the affordable!

There will be plenty of time for questions following the presentation. Registrants may also submit questions ahead of time through the registration form or by emailing Susan D'Entremont at susan@cdlc.org.

About the Presenter: Sonnet Ireland is the Director of the Washington Parish Library, a four-branch public library located about 70 miles north of New Orleans. Previously, she held positions at St. Tammany Parish Library, University of New Orleans, Loyola University New Orleans, and Tulane University. She is a past president of the Louisiana Library Association and is the 2024 recipient of the Louisiana Library Association Meritorious Service Award. She made a cameo appearance on John Oliver's recent segment on libraries, where she is "the understandably exasperated librarian in Louisiana" speaking before the Louisiana legislature.
