The Capital District Library Council (CDLC) is pleased to introduce a new Technology and Equipment Grant designed to support our members in enhancing services, expanding access, and meeting emerging technology needs. This pilot program reflects CDLC’s ongoing commitment to supporting innovation and inclusivity among our member libraries.
This grant provides funding of up to $750 to assist with the purchase of equipment or software that improves collection accessibility, fills budgetary gaps for unexpected but necessary technology needs, or helps launch innovative new programs. By offering this grant, CDLC aims to empower libraries to better serve their communities through thoughtful and responsive technology investments.
Through this pilot grant, CDLC looks forward to supporting creative, meaningful, and responsive library services across our member organizations.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. CDLC has reserved a total of $3,000 annually for this program. Once the full amount has been awarded, the application window will close and reopen at the start of the next fiscal year on July 1. A notice will be posted on the website when the annual funding limit has been reached. Applications are reviewed quarterly by CDLC's Information Management and Technology Committee (IMTC), which presents funding recommendations to the CDLC Board of Trustees. The Board has final approval, and funds will be disbursed following their decision.
The Equipment Grant is intended to support projects that enhance library services through the use of technology. Approved projects should demonstrate a clear benefit to users, improve accessibility, address an unexpected technology need, or help pilot a new initiative. Grant funds may be used to purchase hardware or software. Trial software subscriptions are eligible for funding, as they allow institutions to explore new tools and technologies. However, subscription renewals are not eligible, as ongoing costs are typically covered by the institution’s regular budget. Applications should include a brief explanation of how the equipment will be used and its expected impact on the users.
Examples of Fundable Equipment:
Proposed purchases must align with the library’s mission and demonstrate a clear need or opportunity to enhance service, outreach, or internal operations.
