Erina Dacey, Human Resources Generalist III, Albany Public Library. Erina has 9 years of successful Human Resources experience, specializing in hiring and employee management. She obtained her SHRM-CP (Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professionals) accreditation in 2020. Outside of work, Erina enjoys teaching and practicing yoga.
You can revitalize your career while remaining in the library profession! Three veterans explain how they have thrived while making significant changes over the years. Regina, Gwen, and Susan will share lessons learned, skills acquired, and opportunities seized along the way. Regina Vertone, Gwen Weldy, and Susan Flint from Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library.
Regina Vertone is an Access Services Librarian at Russell Sage College and a part time librarian at Bethlehem Public Library. She has over 20 years of experience working in various libraries from academia to medical to public libraries. Outside of work, Regina enjoys staying fit while indulging her foodie side with showcasing her own cooking and restaurant pictures on her social media.
Susan Flint has been the Head of Youth Services at the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library for the past three years. Prior to that she spent most of her career working in special libraries, including twenty years as the Director of Library and Records Management at a large Albany law firm. Susan is a New York native but has also lived and worked in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Minnesota. She has three semi-adult children and a very patient husband who often "volunteers" at the Library. She enjoys running, crossword puzzles, and wine nights with friends.
Gwen Weldy is Head of Access Services at Clifton Park-Halfmoon Public Library. She has been a librarian for 28 years, most of which was spent working with digital resources in medical, academic, and public libraries and archives. At home, she tends chickens and keeps bees.
Mychal Threets, Literacy Ambassador. Mychal worked in various positions at the Solana County Library in California for over 11 years. He became a library celebrity by promoting libraries and reading through social media. He now promotes literacy full-time.
Michael Threetsis a librarian, literary ambassador, and the library’s number one fan (according to himself, admittedly). He grew up in Fairfield, CA --right between Sacramento and San Francisco. He was raised in his local library as a homeschool kid.
He got his first library card at the age of five and was hooked on libraries from there. He got his first library job as a library shelver at the library he grew up in and worked his way up to become Supervising Librarian of that very same library.
He is very open about his mental health. He talks about it in hopes that it’ll help others in their mental health journey. He is adamant about encouraging people to believe him when he says he’s happy they are here.
He considers it an honor to the library people who raised him that he is a recipient of the 2023 “I Love My Librarian” award from the American Library Association, one of School Library Journal’s 2024 Movers and Shakers, and one of TIME Magazine’s 2024 Next Generation Leaders.
